Guess I gotta get busy
been there done that.. my doc told me Dec 18 2006, do something or I will have to put u on BP meds.. that shook me up… it took me about 3 weeks to get acclimated but on Jan 22.2007 I made the change.. and I keep changeing so far 27.9 pounds of me is gone… so the doc 2 weeks ago.. he was amazed.. BP was EXCELLENT.. he said I have not weighed what I am weighing now since 2002.. and he thinks my goal of dropping 50 more pounds is great… No meds for me… and thats a good thing.. pretty soon it will be no meds for u either… I will get my blood work done in Oct when he wants to see me again.. I am suppose to lose another 10 to 25 pounds before then… wish you well .. wish me well too
I wasn’t feeling great so went to the doctor early in May…my readings were much like yours except my triglycerides were much higher, 295….and she ordered a month of good eating plus a stress test. Well, later that day I ended up in emergency with a heart attack. A month later, I’m on all kinds of meds, I’m eating good, my levels are all good as of a new blood test last week. And I’ve dropped 15 lbs. Moral–tackle it now, don’t wait!
I just read this article in Men’s Health about fitness motivation. It said that external motivators (such as keeping your doctor or your wife happy) might work in the short term, but they don’t stick. Two types of motivation work. One is picking up a fitness activity and doing it because you like it and it feels like play to you. The other motivation that works is that if you really understand and feel the value of the activity, then you will decide that the benefits of being healthy and looking and feeling good out-weigh the suffering of diet and exercise, which I believe is the Beck approach — keeping the value of these things at the forefront of your mind so that you continually motivate yourself. Although clearly there is room for both types of motivation so that you can truly enjoy yourself while doing it. There’s much less pain in diet and exercise if you eat healthy foods that taste good and you exercise by doing activities you enjoy.
